WAS A MERMAID
BORN TO SWIM WITH DOLPHINS -- From the time she was a little girl,
Shen felt at home in the water. No one remembers exactly when or
where she developed her fascination for dolphins. Her affinity with them
was just always there. From the age of about 10, she was fascinated
with these intelligent creatures, and began collecting articles about
them. As she grew older, she began looking for colleges where she
might study them. This was an interest she nurtured throughout her life.
Often, she could be seen wearing her trademark dolphin earrings.
She once wrote,"Dolphins are the most beautiful creatures in the world,
and I'm completely amazed by them." Certainly, one of the big thrills in
her life was spending a week at the Dolphin Research Center in Key West,
Florida last summer.
She wrote while at the center, "I learned a lot about myself, what I want to be, and what the world is all about. I'll never forget swimming with the dolphins and watching the passion of the people who work with them."
Her lifelong dream was realized when she won an academic scholarship to Florida State University where she was planning to study marine biology.
